How To Keep Your Blood Sugar Levels Normal Sugar

Many people find that after exercise their numbers are higher even though exercise is supposed to lower glucose numbers.  One reason for this is because exercise burn fuel very quickly, and the harder and longer you exercise the lower the numbers can go.  This can cause your liver to sense a low and “dump” glucose into your system making the numbers higher.

A good way to avoid this is to make sure your muscles have enough fuel to sustain you during exercise.  For the body the fastest fuel is found through carbohydrates.  Carbs aren’t the enemy, sometimes they’re needed.  The chart below can be a guideline for you to use to develop your own rules by testing before, during, and after exercise of different intensity and duration.  Since each person is different, you must find what works for you and your body:

The last column regards rules especially for type-1’s with whom numbers over 250 could involve high ketone levels. For type-2’s (who can also have high ketone levels with high numbers) the cut-off is higher, usually 300. My opinion is that if your numbers are higher than 250 you shouldn’t do any strenuous or prolonged exercise until they are lower than 250. This is just to be on the safe side.
