The dog shares many of the most common diseases of humans and live in the same environment. In humans, changes in blood pressure is a major public health disease. High blood pressure is also a part of s.k. metabolic syndrome in humans, in which even obesity, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance (diabetes) Included. Diabetes is now also a common disease in our dogs.
The aim of the project is to find genes that cause variations in blood pressure & metabolism of blood sugar and fats in dogs. Characterization of these genotypes may improve diagnosis and treatment of affected dogs and humans. The study was conducted as a European co-operation with five participating countries. Data collection is now complete, and genetic analysis underway. A publication on racial differences in blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormone levels and the impact of the clinical state of the measured values are published: and a further article during processing.
