There is a reason why fast food is unhealthy, but why do we love it so much? Have you ever wondered how fast food affects your body? Nutritionist Kerry Gans, author of numerous articles and books on nutrition for “Yahoo Health”, explains what exactly happens in the body after consuming fast food and how it can leave long-term consequences on our health.   Brain: There is a reason why fast food is considered to be “food for comfort”. The red meat present in hamburgers is full of amino acids that stimulate the secretion of serotonin (the hormone of happiness) and it makes you feel better for a moment. Heart: Red meat is full of saturated fat. Consuming foods high with saturated fat increases the long-term risk of heart disease and stroke and it can increase the risk of cancer. Burgers are packed with salts, which make your body retain water, and not only do you feel bloated, but they also make your heart work harder, which increases the blood pressure.   Bloodstream: According to a 2012survey, even if you consume only one fast food meal, it will damage the arteries. Over time, the saturated fat that is present in red meat increases the cholesterol levels. Red meat also has some health benefits: it is rich in iron, vitamin B12 and zinc, which strengthens the immune system. Blood sugar: The refined carbohydrates in hamburgers are rapidly digested and increase the levels of blood sugar. In the long term, this can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.   Bones and muscles: Red meat is rich in protein, which gives you instant energy and helps build muscle and bone. Weight: Fast food is extremely caloric. After a while, this surplus of calories can lead to obesity, which can cause a risk of suffering from different illnesses.
