The human body is extremely susceptible to falling ill. Well, depending on where you live, more serious illnesses might cost a bomb while milder symptoms could have been avoided. Regardless, prevention is better than cure so here are some great ways to skimp on that healthcare bill. (or to stay healthy!) 1. Get plenty of fiber! Fiber is essential for a healthy diet, which is of course the ultimate goal here. Fiber lowers the risk of all long-term illness such as heart attacks, diabetes, stroke and even cancer! Fiber lowers many parameters such as blood sugar. Fiber also prevents constipation from developing as well as reducing that bloated feeling in the morning if you do not have regular bowel movement. Long story short. Eat your vegetables! If however, you are not able to consume vegetables for some reason or another, check out Fybogel . These give you enough fiber for the whole day. A word of caution, consume enough water with your fiber so that it doesn’t cause constipationinstead. Switch out a soft drink for tea! Tea is benefits our bodies a great deal. A lot of the effect of tea is similar to fiber in that it reduce risk of long-term illnesses developing such as heart diseases, hypertension diabetes and even Parkinson’s disease. A sugary drink on the other hand is going to kill you. While that might be a quite an overreaction, sugar is the worst nutrient. Read all about it . The occasional sugary drink every week is not enough to kill you but it should ideally be avoided as much as possible. Making this substitution can prevent you from developing chronic disease and could have potentially saved you thousands of dollars in medical bill. What about sugarless versions of soda? The sugarless versions aren’t good for you but neither are they good for you. Some research has shown that your body compensates for this by spiking up your insulin levels so that your take in more sugar the next time you consume a meal. Other research has also shown that thesesugar substitute are carcinogenic in nature, meaning that they cause cancer. I would advocate that you try out some tea instead. Get physical! Exercise is paramount to staying healthy. Losing weight aside, exercising regularly keeps our heart healthy and strong and reduce the risk of heart diseases. Exercising in sunlight also allows our body to absorb vitamin D from the sun which is used together with calcium to keep our bones healthy. I think the most important aspect about physical exercise is not physical in nature at all. Mental health is equally as important and exercise is good for our mental health. Running or going to the gym can reduce stress accumulated from work and allows us to focus better in the upcoming days. The type of exercise you do can be anything really. Running, jogging or even lifting weights. For people who are starting out, I recommend that you start out by walking. Walk for an hour at a fast walking pace everyday and it does you wonders. Now, some of youmight say you do not have time to dedicate an hour each day to exercise. To that I say nay. With our technologically saturated lives, spend countless hours on Facebook, Instagram, twitter, YouTube and even on the TV. We have time to spare. It is the way we choose to spend it. Read a book! Mental health is equally as important as physical health. So what is the best way to keep your mind in great shape? Reading lets us explore new world and let us gain a vast amount of knowledge. As we grow older, a large portion of adults stop reading. We stagnate and stop learning. Maybe its because we think we don’t have time. Its a pity, really. For those of you who are still reading, good for you! I know what you’re thinking, “I can’t possibly have time to exercise as well as read on the same day, that is 2 hours gone! I can’t spare that amount of time.” Well, read on for a solution Recently, audiobooks have been surfacing and it is a great way to ‘read’ on the go. You can download the audio fileand put it in your smart phone and wholla! Hands-free reading! Seriously, there are a ton of free audio books now for download, just do a quick google search. I do have 1 recommendation. by Amazon. They have a wide range of books with narrators who breathe life into the story. The app provides a separate location for your audio books and doesn’t require syncing into your music library. Seriously, its great. The audible membership is free for the 1st month. The best part is that even during the free trial, you get to download 1 book of your choice. For free. If you cancel before the month is over, you still get to keep your purchase. The subsequent months accumulate 1 credit per month and rolls over to a maximum of 6 credits per month. You even get discounts off books if you decide to purchase more. Here is an even better suggestion. While you are taking a walk or jogging, bring along your smart phone or any audio playing device that you are currently using. Listen to an audio bookwhile you exercise. You can save SO much time. You can learn while exercising. You 1 hour of walking is no longer boring and you just found time to ‘read’. Get a multivitamin! Multivitamins aren’t as effective as a balanced diet. Period. There is no way around this. But, I still recommend that you take a multivitamin if you diet consists of burgers and fries. These multivitamins are made for overall health and nutrient balance in mind are are cheaper than purchasing each on individually. In the long run, things like zinc and vitamin C can boost your immune system and therefore you fall ill less. Skip out on unnecessary medicine! Do you know that doctors sometimes give you way more medicine that you need? That is not because they are looking to scam some money off you. They are just being safe. They’re doctors after all and its better to be safe than sorry especially when it comes to the lives of people. What you can do is to ask the doctor whether is it ok if you don’t take some of thesymptomatic medication such as Aspirin, Zyrtec and Panadol or you can just tell the pharmacy which meds you do not want to purchase. Symptomatic medication are medicine that relieves some of your pain. These usually come in the form of pain killers, cough drops and flu meds. Some of these you can do without and still get cured within the same amount of time. You are given such medication in case your illness becomes intolerable. This is especially true in common ailments such as flu and cold. To be on the safe side, do your research. Now, there is a ton of information on the internet regarding drugs. Read out on what you can and cannot skip. Keep medicine for common illnesses given previously! For simple illnesses, you can even keep the medicine that you have used previously and use them again the next time you fall ill. Of course, you have to check the expiry date and make sure that it is still consumable. I keep a ‘first-aid box’ of accumulated medicine from people who have fallensick in my family. I have knowledge about drugs so they usually ask me what the drug is for. I recommend that you label the drugs if you’re not familiar with what they do. Ask for payment schemes! So you’ve about to go through a major medical procedure. You are actually entitled to know about any payment plans or schemes the hospital or medical facility might have. You should also be asking for any subsidy that your are eligible for and these can really help you save money! If the receptionist doesn’t know, it doesn’t hurt to do a little research online on what kind of benefits you can get. Talk to your doctor about other options! Sometimes the doctors what to be safe. So they persuade you into a colonoscopy. Bear in mind that you should always have the final say of what goes in and out of your body. It is your body after all! It is best to ask your doctor why he recommends this procedure cortisol while subsequently increasing serotonin and dopamine.
Know Your Cortisol Values
If you suspect you have chronically elevated cortisol levels, it is important to not only get your but to also consult with a qualified practitioner to ensure success on your healing journey.
