All diabetics know that they cannot eat certain foods as a part of their diets. Foods such as white rice, bagels and candy have the ability to raise the glucose levels in a diabetic’s blood. When this happens a diabetic could experience excessive thirst, blurry vision or feel very sick their stomach. Diabetics should avoid the following foods to keep their blood in a good range.

Table Sugar and Refined Flour

Table sugar and are two food substances that diabetics should avoid at all costs. Many baked goods are made with refined flour and they should not be consumed by a person with diabetes. Refined sugar should not be used on cereal, in drinks or on deserts.

White Rice

White rice is a bad food for diabetics because it contains a lot of starch which eventually turn into sugar in body. This food will definitely raise the blood sugar levels in a diabetic’s body.

Potatoes

The problem with potatoes is that they can be digested into the blood stream at a rapid pace. Once this happens a diabetic glucose levels will rapidly spike. Potatoes should be avoided so a person will not have to deal with this type of problem; but if eaten, the effects of the starch can be mitigated with the use of cold temperature, lemon juice or by cooking a potato in heavy fat such as olive oil.

Fruit Juice

Fruit juice is a dangerous drink for diabetics because the sugar in the fluid causes a person’s blood levels to spike rather quickly. This drink is great for people that experience low blood sugar. However, if a person has elevated glucose levels this drink should be avoided.

Candy

Diabetic should not eat candy unless their sugar is low and if they do eat candy they should only eat a small amount. Fresh fruits make a better alternative to candy.

White Milk

White milk prohibits the effectiveness of insulin and it also causes a person to gain more weight. Both of these factors are negative for diabetic patients.

Bacon

Bacon might taste good but it also contains a lot of fat which causes inflammation within a diabetic’s body.

Pretzels

Pretzels are not a nutritionally sound food even though they are baked instead of friend. This snack food wreaks havoc on diabetics because they are made out of refined flour.

People with diabetes should stick with wholesome natural foods with the emphasis on fruits and vegetables. This is especially beneficial as a part of their treatment. Diabetics should avoid fatty and processed foods since they have the ability to make them gain weight, cause their bodies to become inflamed and to elevate blood sugar levels.
