This Cherry Apple Crisp is filled with fruit and topped off with crunchy oatmeal and a big dollop of vanilla frozen yogurt!  The perfect winter treat.

There are so many kinds of fruit crisps to make, but one of my favourites is Cherry-Apple Crisp.  I love the combination of tart apples combined with sweet cherries, it’s delicious…and not to mention healthy.

The health benefits of cherries include:

  • help combat post-workout soreness
  • their flavonoids help fight cancer
  • aid in sleep
  • help to lower blood pressure

There are also many health benefits of apples:

  • high in fiber
  • decrease your risk of diabetes
  • help detoxify your liver
  • boost your immune system

Overall, I would say this is a pretty healthy dessert, wouldn’t you?  I’ve also used all natural ingredients!

Healthy Cherry-Apple Crisp 51 Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes Total Time: 43 minutes Yield: serves 6 Ingredients 1 pound frozen pitted cherries 1 green apple, cored and diced 1/4 cup coconut palm sugar 1/2 tsp almond extract 1-1/2 Tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder 1/3 cup unsweetened apple juice For the Crumble: 1/4 cup old-fashioned rolled oats 1/4 cup coconut palm sugar 1/4 cup walnuts, chopped (optional) 2 Tbsp whole wheat flour 3 Tbsp coconut oil, melted Instructions Preheat oven to 400F. Spray an 8-inch square baking dish with olive oil and set aside. In a bowl, toss together the cherries, apple, coconut sugar, and almond extract. In a cup, mix the cornstarch and juice, add to the fruit mixture, stir. Pour the fruit mixture into your prepared baking dish. In another bowl, mix together the crumble ingredients and crumble on top of the fruit. Bake for 30 minutes, or until bubbly and golden brown. Serve with a dollop of vanilla frozen yogurt!
