Gestational diabetes generally occur where there is too much sugar in the blood. During pregnancy women develops higher level of glucose in their blood which becomes very difficult for insulin to control. The condition can also be caused when placenta of women makes a hormone that forms sugar in the blood. Insulin is made from pancreas, so without it sugar cannot enter into the body.

It’s very imperative for expectant women to go early for test of gestational diabetes. If you will be diagnosed with it, it’s very much important to follow what your doctor is directing you, because you and your baby are after staying healthy.

Risk of developing Gestational diabetes

You have a great risk of developing this condition if you are;

1. Overweight

If you are overweight or obese, the chances of getting this kind of diabetes is very high. This is because your weight will affect the insulin to fail to control blood sugar.

2. Family history

If diabetes has history in your family you can be diagnosed with it. It’s advisable if you become pregnant and you are aware that diabetes has been a very serious complication to your family, to be tested for it. If the results are positive you start medications immediately.

3. If you had it before

If you had it during the previous , the chances of being diagnosed with it again are very high.

4. If you are on bed rest

If you are expectant and you have some serious problems which need a rest, your doctor will opt to put you on a bed rest. When you resting, your gestation will increase on weight, so the chances of being diabetic are very high, since there is no any exercise you are performing.

Symptoms of Gestation diabetes

• Thirst

Thirst occur when you are dehydrated, and you need to drink a lot of water to reduce it. Dehydration normally occur when your body is losing more fluids compared to the one which is taking in. When you are dehydrated the following signs might occur like, dry mouth because you don’t have enough saliva in your mouth and dry lips.

• Fatigue

This is when you feel that your body is very tired. Obviously for expectant woman you must feel very exhausted but this tiredness is very different compared to the pregnancy one.
